  1. M. McGarry – Mary Greeley Foundation (verified owner)

The courses were broken out into topics that were understandable to a new grant writer. From the grant research to the organization plan to the grant application. Everything was clear, succinct, well thought-out and taught in an engaging way. It was excellent that we could go back and watch again because it was recorded and available for 12 months!

The preparation and planning, research and relationship-building with granting organizations is as important as the grant application writing. There are so many steps to take, and then being denied is a very real possibility (and probability). But the more prepared and practiced, the better the odds. Just to go after the grant and apply was my biggest takeaway.

The best part of the Grant Writing Micro-Courses was the research module. I enrolled in a grant writing course and learned how to write grants but not research on how to find them. The Micro-Course helped me to know where to look for grants.

  3. L. Sanderson (verified owner)

The best part of the Micro-Courses was getting our individual questions answered. I also like that I can go back at any time and watch the courses.

I learned so much about the process and what foundations are looking for. The biggest take away was how to put together an LOI. I did not even know what those were before Funding for Good!

  4. M. Funke – KSDS Assistance Dogs, Inc. (verified owner)

I think the basic information about writing grants and how to approach funders was good. The templates are helpful. My biggest takeaway was the fact that in-kind donations should be included in your budgeting process. These donations have an impact on a potential donor and affects your budget when you do your request.

  5. S. Christian – Marine Raider Foundation (verified owner)

The best part about the 2020 Grant Writing Micro-Courses were that each focused on a specific area of grant writing, they were available for viewing either live or at a later date, and they were easy to understand and apply information presented during the courses.

My biggest takeaway was the importance of creating relationships with gatekeepers from grantors organizations, as well as creating a concise yet thorough and compelling first impression.

  6. V. Martin – SA Youth (verified owner)

The 2020 Grant Writing Micro-Courses are very clear and provide lots of great tips! I learned how it is incredibly important to know your organization before beginning the grant writing process.

  7. J. Nuccio – Imani Collective (verified owner)

I like everything about the 2020 Micro-Course Series. I actually love the accessibility to the recordings because we are overseas and I have trouble with making the live recording – the course has been great so I can schedule it and learn it on my own time.

There is a lot of great knowledge and techniques that we have learned as an organization, but it has been with my personal confidence that has been the biggest takeaway. To know that I can do this and we can get grants has been a great self-esteem booster. We now have a robust plan on how to approach grants and who to speak to and overall, it has helped me also budget and find ways to meet that budget.

  8. J. Henderson (verified owner)

The best part of the 2020 Micro-Courses was the Introduction and “easy-on-ramp” approach. The Forms were great! My takeaway was that I cannot operate our organization and be a dedicated fundraiser. We will be hiring a fund raiser by year’s end. I look forward to being able to share the 12 classes with this candidate.

  9. T. Kincaid – Kidspire (verified owner)

I appreciated the comprehensive details guiding me through the process in the Micro-Courses. And as I’ve started applying for grants, I’ve seen so many examples come to life – and I can recall suggestions from Mandy in the back of my mind as I’m completing the grant applications. A key takeaway for me is to make a phone call to the grant provider. This is definitely the hardest part (for me). But it’s the right advice.

  10. M. Mertz – St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church (verified owner)

I appreciate the comprehensiveness of the micro-courses. It keeps me grounded and focused on the work and gives me just enough so that I can continue on without being overwhelmed. I always appreciate the quality of the presentations. Bravo! You really care about us. And the content? Superb. Always thought provoking and gives me a way to take the next step.

Because we are a church, it sometimes seems backwards because churches are often contacted to support non-profits in their good work. This was a helpful insight and has allowed me to use the principles in a way that is making it easier for us to identify partners in ministry. During this time of not being in-person, these developing those partnerships have been helping sustain us. We continue to see a path forward and are grateful.

  11. A. Brown – The Safe Sisters Circle (verified owner)

The best part about the 2020 Micro-Course Series is the attention to detail and the grant application template (super helpful and I still use it today!) and organization. Also, the class that focused on budgets as I am not great with finances/numbers but it helped me organize and build up an organizational budget that worked with a lot of my applications and/or the starting point for my specific budgets.

There is a very specific approach to grant writing and the template helps make that clear. Also, an easy way to organize necessary files and documents to save time. I think it was a very helpful well-rounded series and I can say that I have become more proficient and efficient when applying for grants. I also recommend it to my nonprofit colleagues as a way to really begin to improve their grant applications.

  12. S. Meyers – Habtiat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns (verified owner)

The best part of the 2020 Micro-Courses was that they transitioned to including helpful advice regarding COVID-19 when the pandemic began. This shows that the instructors are willing to change presentations to ensure that the information shared is relevant and helpful. My biggest takeaway was learning about how you should be including volunteers, and in-kind donations on your organizational budget!

  13. S. McCormick – Down Syndrome Association of Connecticut (verified owner)

I loved that the 2020 Grant Writing Micro-Courses were laser-focused and full of very practical demonstrations and examples. Even more valuable was that the practical was embedded in the larger context of growing an organization. It has really helped me understand grant writing as an integral part of a whole package rather than just another fundraising effort.

My organization is small and fairly new to grant writing. After going through the Grant Writing Micro-Courses this year, I think we will be able to refine our efforts to increase success and reduce the stress and drama!
